The missing Moroccan madman may yet make a shock return to East End Park.....
According to reports in the national press, Pars AWOL defender Youssef Rossi could make a sensational return to East End Park for pre-season training.
Rossi has been absent for over a year, after failing to return for the start of the 2002-03 season, but Pars chairman John Yorkston is quoted as saying that Rossi's brother, and agent (the man who many see as the real problem in this case) has been in touch and indicated that it's possible that he could be ready to try and re-start his career with the Pars.
Since going AWOL, Rossi has not been paid, and has had a worldwide transfer ban slapped on him by FIFA, but a return to training would change the goalposts somewhat.
The chances of him actually playing for the Pars again are to say the least, very remote - there is not one single player in the Athletic squad who has played with him before who would welcome him back - and the manager has made it clear that he is finished with the player, BUT, should he return, train (albeit on his own) and make himself available for selection, then he will have to be paid, and perhaps more significantly, have his ban lifted.
It could be that he has found a club willing to take him on, and recognises that he'll have to go through the motions of coming back to Dunfermline, in order to be allowed to move elsewhere.
If that is the case, it could be that the end of the whole sorry episode may not be too far away. On the other hand, we've had so many versions of the story in the past, that most Pars fans will only believe things when they actually happen, not when they hear they might happen!
